Overhead power lines, as one of the most common methods of electricity transmission, are continuously exposed to various environmental hazards. Transient faults such as contact between overhead conductors or between conductors and tower structures, increased conductor sag and reduced line clearance, contact between tree branches and the network, crossing and contact between different overhead lines, as well as bird and animal contact with the network, can lead to short circuits and power outages.
In response to these challenges, Lian Mehregan Sanat Electrical & Energy Engineering Company (Lianiroo), drawing on the expertise of domestic specialists and international experience, has developed and manufactured silicone covers for overhead conductors of power transmission lines using a unique manufacturing method, for the first time in Iran.
These covers can be easily opened along their longitudinal slit, wrapped around the conductor, and installed. During operation, they can withstand harsh weather conditions, UV radiation, and high temperatures. They are also flame-resistant and remain securely attached to the conductor without detaching.
Furthermore, multiple layers of the covers can be installed over one another to achieve a higher level of electrical insulation.
Key benefits of using these types of covers in electrical networks include:
Reducing faults caused by phase conductor contact due to line oscillations, including contact between the phase conductor and the cross-arm, clearance violations between adjacent phases, and contact at crossings with other overhead lines
Reducing faults caused by tree branches coming into contact with the network
Suitable for installation on jumpers of overhead line tension towers
Suitable for installation on connecting conductors in high-voltage substations
Reducing faults caused by bird contact with the network
Increasing network reliability and improving grid stability
Reducing transient faults and the frequency of power outages
